Tramahexal Uses

Tramahexal is a brand name for tramadol, an opioid medication used primarily for the management of moderate to moderately severe pain in adults when other non-opioid pain relievers are insufficient or not tolerated[2][5][7].

It is prescribed for various types of pain, including:

  • Postoperative pain (pain after surgery)[3]
  • Chronic pain that requires round-the-clock and long-term pain management, typically using extended-release formulations[5][6]
  • Severe acute pain, where non-opioid options are inadequate[6][7]
  • Neuropathic pain, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, cancer-related pain, and lower back pain (supported by certain clinical evidence)[1]

Tramadol, including Tramahexal, should not be used in children under 12 years old or after certain types of surgery in anyone younger than 18, due to serious and potentially fatal breathing risks[2][6]. It is not usually recommended for chronic (long-term) pain unless prescribed by a specialist[7].

Tramahexal works by acting on opioid receptors in the central nervous system to change the perception and response to pain. It also affects the reuptake of neurotransmitters such as serotonin and norepinephrine, enhancing its pain-relieving effects[1].

Like all opioids, Tramahexal carries a risk of tolerance, dependence, abuse, and potentially serious side effects such as respiratory depression and, rarely, seizures or serotonin syndrome, especially when combined with other serotonergic medications[1][2].
