Allergex Uses

Allergex refers to a range of antihistamine medications used primarily for the treatment and relief of various allergic conditions. The active ingredients and formulations of Allergex may vary by region and product type, with the most common being chlorphenamine maleate (also known as chlorpheniramine), loratadine, or acrivastine.

Uses of Allergex (Chlorphenamine/Chlorpheniramine):

  • Treatment of allergic and anaphylactic conditions such as hay fever, vasomotor rhinitis (allergic runny nose), urticaria (hives), angioedema (swelling under the skin), drug reactions, contact dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, insect bites, and various forms of pruritus (itching, including pruritus vulvae)[1].
  • It is also used for the symptomatic treatment of the common cold and flu in children, as well as other allergy symptoms[8].

Uses of Allergex Non-Drowsy (Loratadine):

  • Relief of symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis such as sneezing, runny nose (rhinorrhoea), and itching of the nose and throat[3].
  • Alleviation of symptoms associated with allergic skin reactions and hives (chronic idiopathic urticaria and other allergic dermatoses)[5].

Uses of Allergex 8mg (Acrivastine):

  • Treatment of symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis (including runny/itchy nose, sneezing, itchy/red throat, itchy/watery eyes)[4].
  • Treatment of chronic idiopathic urticaria, cholinergic urticaria, or cold-induced urticaria[4].

Additional Notes:

  • Chlorphenamine-based Allergex products can cause drowsiness and should be used with caution, especially when operating machinery or driving[1].
  • Allergex Non-Drowsy and acrivastine formulations are less likely to cause sedation[4][5].
  • Consult a healthcare professional before use, especially in children, individuals with certain medical conditions, and during pregnancy or breastfeeding[1][3][4].
