Cavilon Spray Uses

Cavilon No Sting Barrier Film Spray is designed to protect intact, damaged, or ‘at-risk’ skin from various causes of irritation such as urine, feces, other body fluids, adhesive trauma, and friction[2]. Upon application, it forms a breathable, transparent, and waterproof barrier that helps prevent skin damage before it occurs[5].

  • Prevention of Medical Adhesive-Related Skin Injury (MARSI): Applied around vascular access sites, ostomies, and wounds, Cavilon spray protects skin from adhesive exposure and reduces the risk of MARSI[5].
  • Protection from Incontinence-Associated Dermatitis (IAD): Effective against irritation caused by prolonged exposure to urine and feces, especially in incontinent patients[1].
  • Use Around Wounds and Ostomies: Sprayed onto periwound or peristomal skin, it protects against moisture and body fluids, helping maintain skin integrity[7].
  • Protection Against Friction and Shear: Suitable for use in areas subjected to pressure or movement, such as under tapes or adhesives, and helps in reducing local skin complications or skin tears following catheterization[3][4].
  • Safe for Sensitive and Broken Skin: Being alcohol-free, Cavilon spray does not sting or irritate even when applied to broken or tender skin[2]. It is also sterile and non-cytotoxic, which means it will not interfere with skin or wound healing[2].
  • Other Uses: May be used for routine skin protection as part of protocols for pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, and sites at risk for medical adhesive injury[7].

Cavilon No Sting Barrier Film Spray is generally easy to use; it dries rapidly without creating a sticky or tacky coating, and maintains its properties over skin areas with bends and creases[7]. Protection lasts up to 72 hours and it does not reduce the absorbency of incontinence pad linings[2].

Important Usage Warnings: It is extremely flammable and should only be applied when no ignition sources or heat-producing devices are present[6].
