Co Maug 1G Uses

Co-amoxiclav 1g is an antibiotic combination containing amoxicillin and clavulanic acid, commonly used to treat a variety of bacterial infections in adults and children, including severe ear, nose, and throat infections, respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections (including dental infections), bone and joint infections, intra-abdominal infections, and genital organ infections in women[1].

This medication works by combining two agents: amoxicillin, a penicillin-type antibiotic that kills bacteria, and clavulanic acid, which inhibits beta-lactamase enzymes produced by resistant bacteria, thereby allowing amoxicillin to remain effective[1].

Co-amoxiclav 1g (1000 mg/200 mg) is typically used in situations such as:

  • Severe ear, nose, and throat infections
  • Respiratory tract infections (including pneumonia and bronchitis)
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Skin and soft tissue infections (including dental infections)
  • Bone and joint infections
  • Intra-abdominal infections
  • Genital organ infections in women
  • Surgical prophylaxis: to prevent infections during and after certain surgical procedures

The specific dose and frequency depend on the severity and type of infection, as well as the patient’s age, weight, and kidney function[1]. For adults and children weighing 40 kg or more, a common standard dosing regimen is 1000 mg/200 mg every 8 hours. For surgical prophylaxis, 1000 mg/200 mg is typically administered at induction of anaesthesia, and may be repeated if surgery lasts longer than one hour[1].
