Domadol is primarily used for the management of moderate to severe pain in adults and adolescents over 12 years of age[2][3][4][5]. It is commonly prescribed for both acute and chronic conditions such as post-operative pain, pain after injuries, pain associated with arthritis, back pain, neck pain, and headaches[3][5][6][8]. Depending on the formulation, Domadol may be used for:

  • Relief of moderate to moderately severe pain, including acute and long-standing pain[2][5][8]
  • Treatment of severe acute and chronic pain[3]
  • Management of procedural and post-surgical pain[3]
  • Pain due to musculoskeletal conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis[5]

Domadol contains tramadol as its active ingredient, which is a centrally acting synthetic opioid analgesic. It works mainly by binding to mu (μ), delta (δ), and kappa (κ) opioid receptors in the central nervous system, thereby reducing the perception of pain. It also inhibits the reuptake of noradrenaline and serotonin, contributing to its analgesic effects[2].

Domadol should not be used in patients with severe liver or kidney disease, severe respiratory depression, hypersensitivity to tramadol or opioids, active seizure disorders, or by children under 12 years of age. It should be used with caution in cases of head injury, substance abuse history, or concurrent use of other CNS depressants or alcohol[3][8].
