Drawtex Dressing Uses

Drawtex dressing is a hydroconductive wound dressing designed for wounds with moderate to heavy exudate. It uses LevaFiber™ technology to lift and hold exudate away from the wound bed, transferring fluids and debris both vertically and horizontally within the dressing without leakage[2].

Intended Uses:

  • Management of moderately to heavily exuding wounds of all shapes and sizes[1].
  • Suitable for burns (first- and second-degree), amputations, post-operative wounds, venous leg ulcers, pressure ulcers, cavity wounds, diabetic foot ulcers, Buruli ulcers, complex surgical wounds, difficult-to-heal wounds, and nonhealing wounds[2].
  • Can be used as a first-line dressing in wound bed preparation as part of standard wound care[1].
  • Special formats, such as Drawtex tracheostomy and tube dressing, are designed for use around tracheostomy tubes or drains to absorb fluid and protect peristomal skin[8].
  • Drawtex Edema Wrap can be used for weepy lower limbs, with or without wounds[4].

Key Benefits:

  • Removes wound exudate, as well as harmful components like slough, wound debris, and bacteria that impede healing[1].
  • Disperses fluid within the dressing to reduce risk of maceration and allows the use of multiple layers for heavy exudate[2].
  • Promotes wound bed preparation without damaging newly formed tissue[1].
  • May be cut or layered to fit any wound size or shape[7].
  • Can be used under compression therapy in appropriate cases[4].

Application and Use:

  • Cut to fit the wound and apply directly to moderate or heavily exuding wounds; for dry or low-exudate wounds, use a nonadherent contact layer between the wound and Drawtex[7].
  • Change every 1 to 3 days, or as wound exudate requires[7].
  • For wounds with exposed tendon, use a non-adherent contact layer beneath Drawtex[4].
  • For deep, undermined, or tunneled wounds, Drawtex Rope may be used[8].

Contraindications and Precautions:

  • Not indicated for dry wounds or full-thickness burns[4].
  • Should not be used if arterial bleeding is present[1].
  • Use with caution on fragile tissue, as removal may cause bleeding[1].
  • Avoid in cases of allergy or sensitivity to any dressing components[4].
