Medazine Uses

Medazine contains cyclizine hydrochloride, an antihistamine used primarily to prevent and treat nausea, vomiting, and dizziness associated with motion sickness and certain inner ear disorders, such as Ménière’s disease[2][4][8].

Its principal uses include:

  • Prevention and treatment of nausea and vomiting caused by motion sickness, postoperative recovery (after anesthesia), or as a result of opioid use[1][5][7].
  • Relief of vertigo and dizziness caused by inner ear problems like Ménière’s disease and labyrinthine disorders[2][5][8].
  • May be used in specific situations for nausea related to radiotherapy, particularly when other treatments are unsuitable[5].

It is generally administered orally, but can also be given rectally or by injection in some medical contexts[1][8]. Cyclizine, the active component, works by blocking histamine receptors in the brain that are responsible for triggering feelings of nausea and dizziness[6][7]. Medazine should be taken about 30 minutes before travel when used for motion sickness[8].

Contraindications: Medazine should not be used:

  • In people allergic to cyclizine or its ingredients
  • In those with acute asthma, narrow-angle glaucoma, prostatic enlargement, difficulty urinating, or certain lung diseases
  • During pregnancy and breastfeeding, unless advised by a doctor, as safety is not established[2][8]
