Nuzak Uses

Nuzak is a brand name for fluoxetine, a medication classified as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant. It is commonly used to treat depression, improve mood, and relieve anxiety and tension. Nuzak is also utilized for the treatment of bulimia nervosa (an eating disorder), helping reduce binge-eating and purging behaviors[3].

Like other SSRIs, fluoxetine (Nuzak) can be prescribed for several psychiatric and mood disorders, including major depressive disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD)[5][7]. It is sometimes used with olanzapine to treat depressive episodes in people with bipolar disorder or treatment-resistant depression[5].

Dosage is determined by a healthcare provider and may start low before being increased as needed. Patients are advised not to adjust or stop the medication without consulting their doctor to avoid worsening symptoms or withdrawal effects, such as anxiety or sleep disturbances[3].

Common side effects may include nausea, loss of appetite, dry mouth, fatigue, insomnia, abnormal dreams, and sexual dysfunction. Serious risks involve increased suicidal thoughts (especially in young people), mania, seizures, serotonin syndrome, and increased risk of bleeding[3][5][7].

Individuals with epilepsy, diabetes, liver or kidney disease, heart problems, or glaucoma should inform their healthcare provider before starting Nuzak[3]. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should use caution and seek medical advice before taking this medication[3][7].
