Topraflux tablet is used primarily to treat conditions caused by excess stomach acid, such as stomach ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), heartburn, and inflammation of the esophagus[1]. The active ingredient is usually pantoprazole, which is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that works by reducing the amount of acid produced in the stomach[3].
Uses of Topraflux Tablet:
- Treatment of stomach ulcers
- Management of GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease)
- Relief from heartburn
- Treatment of oesophagitis (inflammation of the esophagus)
The tablet may also be prescribed to prevent acid-related damage in long-term NSAID users or for other conditions as indicated by a healthcare provider[1][5].
Important Precautions:
- Do not use if allergic to pantoprazole or similar medicines.
- Should not be taken with rilpivirine, a medication for HIV.
- Inform your doctor if you have liver problems, osteoporosis, or low vitamin B12 levels, as long-term use can decrease vitamin B12 absorption[1][7].
- Blood magnesium levels may drop with prolonged use (greater than 3 months); regular tests may be required[7].
Side Effects:
- Mild: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, headache, dizziness, flatulence[1][3].
- Serious (seek medical advice if these occur): Joint pain with a rash, severe diarrhea, irregular heartbeat, muscle spasms, seizures, severe allergic reactions (swelling, difficulty breathing), kidney problems, liver issues, or skin reactions (blistering, peeling, or bleeding skin)[2][3][5][7].
- Long-term risks: Increased risk of bone fractures, vitamin B12 deficiency, low magnesium, Fundic gland polyps, and possible kidney injury[3][5][7].
Administration Notes:
- Topraflux tablet should be swallowed whole; do not chew, crush, or split the tablet[2].
- Do not administer via a nasogastric or feeding tube[2].
