Amoxyclav 375 tablet is a combination antibiotic containing amoxicillin and clavulanic acid, and is primarily used for the treatment of bacterial infections in adults and children. Its main indications include:
- Acute bacterial sinusitis (when properly diagnosed)
- Cystitis (bladder infection)
- Pyelonephritis (kidney infection)
- Cellulitis (skin and soft tissue infection)
- Animal bites
- Severe dental abscess with spreading cellulitis
It is also prescribed for upper and lower respiratory tract infections (such as tonsillitis, otitis media, bronchitis, and pneumonia), genitourinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections (e.g., osteomyelitis), and some dental infections[1][2][3][4][5]. The combination works by amoxicillin killing sensitive bacteria, while clavulanic acid inhibits bacterial enzymes that could otherwise degrade amoxicillin[3][5].
Antibiotics like amoxyclav 375 should only be used for infections caused by susceptible bacteria and not for viral infections such as colds or flu. Irresponsible usage may increase the risk of antibiotic resistance[3][5].
