Chloromax Eye Ointment Uses

Chloromax eye ointment is used for the treatment of bacterial infections of the eye and eyelid. It contains chloramphenicol, which works by killing bacteria (germs) and allowing the body to overcome the infection[3]. It is commonly indicated for surface ocular infections involving the conjunctiva and/or cornea caused by chloramphenicol-susceptible organisms, including Staphylococcus aureus, various Streptococcus species (including Streptococcus pneumoniae), Escherichia coli, Haemophilus influenzae, Klebsiella/Enterobacter species, Moraxella (Morax-Axenfeld bacillus), and Neisseria species[5].

Typical uses include:

  • Treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis (infection of the mucous membrane of the eye surface)[7]
  • Treatment of other bacterial infections of the eye and eyelid[3]

It is not effective against all types of bacteria, such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa or Serratia marcescens[5].
